Most promising young scientists

Garima Rajguru, our third year student studying Physics honours, proved herself to be one of the most promising young scientists. During first year of undergraduate studies she was awarded the prestigious "Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search Senior Scholarship-2016". Eventually, she has pocketed one of the most renowned fellowships in undergraduate research- "Undergraduate Associateship in Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in 2017". Currently she is ongoing with a research project on Introduction to some Basic Concepts of the Theory of Relativity and Cosmology under guidance of Prof. Debasish Mazumder, Department of Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP). She has participated in the conference named "Presision-2018 Presidency Physics Summit" organized by Presidency University and her poster entitled "The Accelerated Expansion of the Universe: Reconstructing the equation of state of Dark Energy" won first prize in the poster Competition. Beside studies, she is also very much interested and active in extra-curricular activities. She has been awarded best speaker in Debate competition in "Golden Jubilee Celebration of Physics Honours Teaching" organized at Bethune College, in 2018. To achieve her goal towards astrophysics, she has participated in 3-day workshop 'Sky Observation Camp' under 'Talent Enrichment Programme' of JBNSTS, at Sundarbans, March 2018.

Subhaswapna Mukhopadhaya, one of the most bright and diligent students of our college, studying IInd Year Hindi Honours won the highest award ('Shikhar Samman') in the Annual Hindi Literary Fest (Hindi Mela), 2018 in the field of Poem Recitation. The award was received by her from the hands of Dr. Shambhunath, Director, Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad in the valedictory session of the weeklong state level contest held at Fedaration Hall Society, Rajabazar, Kolkata..

A student of UG III, English, Sayantani is a photographer and her start-up Photo-Scene-Thesis dealing with photography, content creation, event management, corporate branding and advertisement was also featured by the New Indian Express. At such a young age, she is not only a successful entrepreneur but she has also worked as an editor at Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utshob, 2017 and Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, 2018. She also worked with The Times of India as an on-round marketing partner of Phire Esho Kolkata campaign November 2018 - February 2019. She has worked as a photographer at Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival January 2018. Amongst other activities, she has worked at Presidency MUN as a member of IP - March 2018. She has won several awards at intra and inter college competitions for photography, debate and extempore. She has also worked as Media Head of Bethune College Students' Committee 2018..

Department of English

A student of UG III, English, Shalinee won the 2nd Prize in All Bengal Debate Competition held in commemoration of Sister Nivedita's 150th Birth Anniversary. She also secured third position in an Inter College Debate Competition organized on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangan) organized by Department of PWD, Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. of India, 2017. Shalinee has covered the literary festival, Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet 2018, as a journalist and reporter. She has won the second prize for online story competition organised by the magazine The Leaky Pot. She also won second prize for online poetry/letter writing competition for itinerant inkslingers. She also did an internship at Digimyx Infotech on content writing. She has won several intra and inter college competitions for debate and creative writing. She has also worked as Creative Affairs Head of Bethune College Students' Committee 2018..

Department of Political Science

Five students (Left to Right: Bidisha Sil, Shadabi Anjum, Yukta Acharya, Subarna Mustari and Sanjushree Sur) from the Department of Political Science, Bethune College, Kolkata successfully took part in the Model United Nations (MUN) organised by Presidency University on 24-26 September 2018. They received two awards as 'Best Delegate' and 'Best Press' along with certificates for their commendable participation in the event.

Department of Economics

Medha Chatterjee, a UG III student of Economics Department along with 3 of her friends won second prize in Exposition : a paper presentation event at Confluence XIII, 2018, organised by the Department of Economics, St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. She was also selected as a participant in the Simulation of IMF Committee as the representative of Vietnam at Policy Forum model, United Nations, at Presidency University. Also selected and served as Wordcon officer in Wordcon 2018, in the Third International Freelancers' Conference, Kolkata. For her all-round excellence in both curricular as well as extra-curricular activities, she has been nominated as the winner of the Prestigious Nalini Das All-round Excellence Award of Bethune College this year.

Department of Chemistry

Swarnali Sarkar, a student of the Chemistry department, was awarded the 'Best undergraduate entry' for her essay in the Damodarshree Essay Competition, organised by S S Khanna Girls' Degree College, 2018. It is a national level essay writing competition for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, held every year.
