    ONGOING RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Dr. Syamali Sen supervised the following Project Works during 2010 for the students of P.G Diploma in guidance and Psychological Counseling (PGDG&PC) Course at the centre for Counseling and Disability Study, Rabindra Bharati University:

  1. A study of depression, social support and general health of aged people residing in family and at old age home.
  2. Need for achievement and anxiety pattern of male and female high school students.
  3. A study of attitude towards AIDS among university students of West Bengal.
  4. Achievement motivation and pattern of anxiety among Hindu and Muslim parents of Primary School children.
  5. Adjustment pattern and achievement motive of male and female high school students.
  6. Exploring depression, anxiety and social support among the parents of the disabled children.
  7. A study of depression, anxiety and general health status of Bengalee female patients suffering from ANOREXIA NERVOSA.

Sm. Nilanjana Bagchi, in collaboration with Dr. Chilka Ghosh, Reader, Dept of History, Basanti Devi College, Kolkata, is working on a Major Research Project “A trap Called Trafficking” funded by the Women’s Studies Research Centre, University of Calcutta.

Smt. Nilanjana Bagchi (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Syamali Sen (Co – investigator) are working on a short term project on “A Study to evaluate the trend of Empowerment of Rural and Urban Poor Women with respect to Self Esteem, Achievement Motivation, Entrepreneurship, Social Support, Leadership, Effectiveness and Decision Making” funded by Women’s Studies Centre, Bethune College, Kolkata.

Sm. Nilanjana Bagchi is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in the area of ‘Psychological empowerment of Women’ in the Dept. of Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta.


Sm. Pallavi Banerjee is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in the area of ‘Psychotherapy Process Research’ in the Dept. of Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta.

Sm. Mahua Chatterjee has completed her Ph.D. thesis in the area of ‘Environmental Psychology’ in the Dept. of Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta.

     
   

Sm. Nilanjana Bagchi (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Syamali Sen (co-investigator) are working on a Minor Research Project “An exploration to evaluate the effect of training programme on empowerment of women residing in some rural slum areas of West Bengal with reference to certain psychosocial variables” funded by Women’s Studies Research Centre, University of Calcutta.

 Psychological Counselling

    EXTENSION ACTIVITIES  
       
   
  • In 2009, to get some practical clinical exposure, the third year students of the Department visited the Psychiatry OPD of the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in small groups (with special permission from the Principal, R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital).
     
  • In 2008 and 2009, the NSS student members of the Department participated in a slum visit programme in which they specially contributed by providing psychological awareness and counselling services to the slum dwellers under the supervision of the teachers of the Department.
     
  • Participation in Students Seminars and Quiz organized by the Department.
     
  • Participation in the various Social Service Programmes organized by the College, e.g. Blood Donation Camp, Traffic Control Progranmme, campus cleaning, campaigning for plastic free zone, etc.
